Here’s What to Expect as You Prepare for Cataract Surgery

Preparing for Cataract SurgerCataract surgery is a common procedure that helps restore clear vision by removing the eye’s cloudy lens and replacing it with a clear artificial lens.

If you or a loved one is preparing for cataract surgery, it's important to understand what to expect before, during, and after the procedure.

We at Belill Eye Care, PLC in Clio have an in-house surgery center to support you through the process from pre-op to post-op and everything in between.

Before Surgery

Before cataract surgery, your eye doctor will perform a thorough eye exam to ensure that you're a good candidate for cataract surgery and ready for the procedure. They may also discuss with you the type of artificial lens to be used and any potential risks or side effects.

It's important to ask any questions or express any concerns you may have.

We’ll provide instructions on how to prepare for the surgery, including any medications to take or avoid.

Day of Surgery

After you arrive at our in-house surgery center, you’ll be given eye drops to numb your eye and prevent infection.

The surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis and takes about 20-30 minutes on average. You may be given a mild sedative to help you relax. During the procedure, the surgeon will remove your cloudy natural lens and replace it with the new lens you and your eye doctor have chosen.

After Surgery

After the surgery, you'll need to rest for a few hours and avoid strenuous activity. Your doctor will give you specific instructions on caring for your eye and when you can return to normal activities. You may experience some temporary side effects, such as blurred vision, itching, and burning, but these should resolve within a few days.

If symptoms persist, we want to know, so we can address any problems that might arise.

Overall, cataract surgery is a relatively simple and safe procedure that significantly improves vision. By understanding what to expect, you can feel more confident and comfortable about the process.
